Amarillo Convention and Visitor Council’s Dan Quandt talks about the positive vibrations around our community and why we, as advertising professionals, should be excited.
Dan Quandt is the vice president of the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Council at the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce. A 35 year veteran CVB director, Quandt previously served in leadership positions with the South Padre Island, Texas, Lincoln, Nebraska and Grand Forks, North Dakota CVBs.
Dan was born in Fargo, North Dakota and began his hospitality career in 1969 as a bellboy at the Powers Hotel in downtown Fargo. He received his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the University of North Dakota.
Dan is a past chairman of the board for the Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus, and has served in a number of capacities, including chair of their legislative and bylaws committees. He also serves on the Texas Travel Industry Association legislative committee and was a member of the board of directors for six years. He also served as chair of the TTIA marketing committee.
Quandt served on the board of directors of the International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus and the IACVB Foundation Board of Trustees, including a year as vice chair. He was also vice chair of the IACVB White House Conference on Tourism Task Force.
Dan was a White-House appointed delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Tourism and served on the jobs and education national task force in preparation for the event. Dan was involved in the founding of the National Association of Sports Commissions and served on the initial board of directors for three years.
Quandt has also served and continues to serve on numerous local, state, regional and national boards and committees, including the Tri State Fair and Exposition Board of Directors, headquartered in Amarillo. He is also a frequent speaker at industry events.
Dan received his status as a certified association executive from the American Society of Association Executives in 1992. In 2004, Dan became a certified sports event executive from the National Association of Sports Commissions. Dan is also a certified tourism executive, awarded after graduating from the Travel and Tourism College, sponsored by the Texas Travel Industry Association. Quandt is also a Texas Destination Marketer as awarded by the Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus.
In 2015, Quandt received the Gene Phillips Hospitality Award from the Texas Travel Counselors for “continuing and enthusiastic support of the Texas Travel Industry reflecting the highest degree of professionalism, dedication and hospitality”.
